St. Lucy Parish School was established in September 1953 with a student body of 122 first, second and third grade pupils. The school was expanded on a yearly basis until it reached nine grades, including Kindergarten. The south wing of the school, housing the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classrooms and audio-visual room, was added to the original building in 1960. Following completion of the present parish church in 1967, the former church building was converted to an auditorium/gymnasium. In 1986, the audio-visual room was remodeled to what is now the computer lab, housing 40 Apple Macintosh computers. An extended day care program began in 1986. In 1992 the St. Lucy Extended day care program moved to the first floor of the Julie Billiart Center (convent). A new playground structure was erected and a new gym floor was installed during the summer of 2000. The central gathering place for morning assembly was renovated during the summer of 2001. We opened the new science lab for classes in January 2002. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have served as administrators, faculty
and staff members for St. Lucy School since its founding. A dedicated group
of lay instructors and members of other religious communities have assisted
the Sisters in their work. St. Lucy School celebrated 50 years of excellence
in 2003. |
